What might happen if we (campus/grade level)/you (individual/classroom) spent 20% (or...76 minutes in the day) of your energy focused on the wildly important?

  1. Achievement Gaps would close, we would feel that what we are doing each day is making an impact on our students, school and selves. Students would begin to see what they put in to their specific goals is directly related to their results! then we CELEBRATE!!!

  2. Well said Hayley...I agree completely. Also, students will begin to feel more confident in themselves, and their willingness to take academic risks will increase producing higher achievement.

  3. We would see quality instruction/learning. I agree with Hayley, achievement gaps would close. We would see independent learners taking ownership of their learning. We would definitely have some great celebrations!

    1. YES! Lack of confidence is currently working against student achievement. Building confidence will have a significant impact student achievement. Focusing on the Wildly Important will allow us to focus on the individual student and build their confidence. Win-Win!

  6. We would accomplish our goals and then be able to set even wilder goals both as a campus & individual. This would also allow us to accomplish those goals even in the whirlwind.

  7. Students would be invested more in the goals they set. They will begin to see progress and meet their goals. We would see achievement gaps close, students OWNING their goals and learning, and teachers would feel like they are truly making a difference with those struggling students.

  10. I truly think the possibilities are endless if we devoted this amount of time to the wildly important. We would see so much growth in our students and ourselves. They would see their hard work pay off in achieving their goals. They would feel successful and morale would be through the roof!

    1. Mackenzie I love your connection you made to morale! If students are being successful and teachers are intentionally planning for individualized success then celebrations are happening and the impact that's is occurring makes coming to work/ school exciting for all!

  13. It would give students and staff the time, confidence, and motivation to FOCUS on and achieve their WIG. It would then push everyone forward to the next steps of their WIG or on to a new WIG.

  14. If we focused for 76 minutes daily on the wildly important, then we would move mountains! Anything would be possible. A snowball effect would catch on and Seven Hills would shine.

  17. Not only would great things be happening in our classroom but also in our personal lives. If we dedicated significant time to accomplishing personal goals our professional goals would be easier to tackle as well. That would trickle down into our school, classes, students etc..

  26. I agree with everyone who mentioned "closing achievement gaps." It reminds me of the saying, "you get what you pay for"....wherever you put the most time and effort is where you will reap the most benefits.

  28. Setting aside that time each day and giving it a strict focus would show our students just how powerful it can be when you apply that focus to one goal. This would lead to goals being met and more being made. Student and teacher confidence would rise!

  30. Focusing our energy on the wildly important will not only influence our students, but ourselves as professionals and individuals. By setting an example for our students, we are constantly called on to plan and reflect which allows us to not only set high expectations for our students, but reach high expectations ourselves. Imagine a school full of "teachers of the year"...if we truly put forth the energy and the effort I believe The Hills could get there!
